March: What's your take-away from The Adoration of Jenna Fox?

Our March Feature

Any final thoughts for Mary as her month concludes? What's your personal take-away from The Adoration of Jenna Fox?

And Mary, what should we watch for next?

It's SO hard to choose just one take-away from The Adoration of Jenna Fox. It's such a complex story that has left me with a lot to think about, and it's really stayed with me over the months since I read it.

If I had to choose one big thing, I'd say it's that it made me think about how science has the potential to take us in even more ethically complicated directions than it already has.

I loved the discussion this month. I think Mary's book rocked readergirlz and she was a treat to talk to at the chat.

Thanks Mary!

I agree with Shelf Elf--this is HARD. But I think THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX made me really think about how far I would go to save someone I loved, if given the opportunity.

Most of all I loved the question: What does it mean to be human. Does our humanity reside in our bodies? Another interesting book along this line is an older one--The Ship who Sang. I believe that is by Anne McCaffrey.

. . . and how happy I am that, according to the NRDC website, we (direct quote now) "won federal protections for the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act" in 2008. :)

I had such a great time this month. Thank you Divas and readergirlz for all the great questions and conversations. You have left ME with a lot to think about!

As for what is next, I have a new book coming this September titled THE MILES BETWEEN. It is about Destiny Faraday and three classmates who take off on an unauthorized road trip in search of one fair day. They all have secrets but Destiny's secret is one that she fears will bring the whole day to a horrible end. It is a larger than life type of story about chance and coincidence and how it weaves unexectedly into our lives. It is a VERY different story from JENNA!

Thank you again for a fun and interesting month! I am so happy I have gotten to know the readergirlz a little better. I am looking forward to future authors and conversations!
