readergirlz is a literacy and social media project for teens, awarded the National Book Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize. The rgz blog serves as a depot for news and YA reviews from industry professionals and teens. Raw Sugar! And Other Things to Know About Featured Author Ellen Hopkins

We're loving our time with Ellen Hopkins, and here are some little-known facts about our featured author:

Favorite drink while you write: Coffee, with nonfat half and half and raw sugar.

Favorite bookstore: Sundance Bookstore, Reno

Pets: Yukon and Arson (German shepherds); Toby (cat)

Writer buddies: Susan, Suzy, Susie, Jim (they can’t ALL be Susans!)

Cure for writer's block: Exercise. The brain kicks in when the body works.

Author idol: Stephen King
