Jackie Parker, one of our awesome postergirlz, alerted us to this list of 100 Young Adult Books for the Feminist Reader.
Jac says: "This is possibly one of the coolest lists ever compiled. I wanted to highlight just a few of my favorites that made the list, but those few quickly became DOZENS. Dozens, I tell you." She posted the full list at her blog, meme-style, putting the titles she's read in bold. She's read 45 of the 100 titles so far.

This list lost all credibility when readers complained about Tender Morsels, Living Dead Girl, and Sisters Red
and so Bitch removed them. In their explanation as to why they were removed, it made it sound like no one had read the books before putting the list together.
Maureen Johnson and Scott Westerfeld are now asking that their books also be removed.

I would also like to give fair warning that this list carries a lot of controversy with it.
One of the best summaries is here:

Justice Larbalestier and Diana Peterfreund also asked to be removed but the magazine refused.
Thanks for the breakdown, Bookseller Babe. It's nice to have a breakdown of what happened and who said what!
How can people put books on recommended reading lists if they haven't read them? Oh my goodness.
Thanks for the links and discussion, everyone. Keep it coming.
Go Scott.
Go Maureen.
I did address the issue in an update on the original post on my blog. It's such an odd situation. This post was prepped before the controversy.
I was so excited to see the list had been published, but the surrounding drama definitely stripped it of its credibility. That said, it's still a kick-a$$ list of books that are worth checking out - even if I've lost faith in the editors of Bitch.
Besides - I've GAINED even *more* respect for the YA community for the stand so many authors took on behalf of the titles that were removed.
