Lisa McMann rocks the drop! #operationtbd

Lisa McMann, bestelling author of WAKE, FADE, and GONE, is dropping a signed copy of WAKE at her daughter's orthodontist's office this afternoon.

There is probably an anesthesia joke in there that we are too punchy to make.

Story Secrets: GONE by Lisa McMann

Welcome to the latest Story Secrets, where YA authors dish about the secrets behind their YA novels. Today, I'm really excited to welcome Lisa McMann, author of WAKE, FADE and GONE (just released this week!), to talk about the secrets behind trilogy.

Welcome, Lisa!

*****

People often ask me what inspired the WAKE trilogy, and I always answer with the same thing in person as what I have written on my website – I had a dream that I was in my husband’s dream, watching what he was dreaming about. When I woke up in the middle of the night, I wrote down the dream, and in the morning when I woke up, the idea didn’t suck. So I explored the possibilities and began writing.

Truly, that is what inspired the plot. But the inspiration for the characters came from another place, layers and layers deep. It took me a year and a half of booksignings and interviews to really get to the heart of it.

Sneak Peek at Cabel from WAKE and FADE by Lisa McMann

Heads up: There's a new, free online short story by Lisa McMann, author of WAKE and FADE. This one is told from Cabel’s point-of-view. He's the sensitive love interest of main character Janie, and he's totally swoony.

Here's where you can sign up to get the download.

Dontcha just love sneak peeks at secondary characters' thoughts?

The Fund Your Dream Essay Contest

Lisa McMann's bestselling WAKE is about a girl named Janie who falls into other people's dreams. No spoilers here, but the series is a ton of fun, and book 2, FADE, is out in February. Janie herself has big dreams--mainly she thinks about college--but she doesn't have the money to make her dreams come true.

In honor of the new release, Lisa and Simon & Schuster are hosting a FUND YOUR DREAM essay contest. The question they're asking readers ages 14-18 is:

What is the Greatest Obstacle You’ve Overcome?

Lisa will choose a winning 500-word essay, and the winner will receive $1000 toward meeting his or her life goals!

The contest is going on now, so click to read the full rules, and it ends on March 6th, 2009. Go for it, readergirlz!
