Hey readergirlz! Bethany Hegedus here! I’ll soon be sending in from the field reports of the book goings on in Austin, Texas, but as co-editor of Hunger Mountain’s Young Adult and Children’s page I wanted to be sure you knew of an exciting new contest for young writers just like you.
Want to be published in a prestigious literary journal? Of course, you do! See your poem, non-fiction piece, or short story, published along side names like Tobias Wolfe, Katherine Paterson, and Sara Zarr. Hunger Mountain online is sponsoring A Prize for Young Writers, being judged by none other than lauded YA author M. T. Anderson.

Go to http://www.hungermtn.org/hunger-mountain-prize-for-young-writers/ for more info!
Submissions must be postmarked by April 30, 2010! So get writing!
Prize: Publication in Hunger Mountain online, $250 to first place winner in each genre, $100 to runners-up
Short stories and non-fiction should be under 8,000 words, double spaced, in Times New Roman, and not stapled. Poets can enter up to three poems per entry. $10 entry fee.
Don't put your name on the manucript itself -- put your name, address, email, phone number, title, and genre on an index card with the submission.

Thanks, Bethany! I just posted the FAQ & submission guidelines at my blog and forwarded the link & information to folks who might be interested (both writers currently in high school and the creative writing and journalism teachers I know!)
Oooh. What a cool contest. We know some young writers around here!
