I first read Harry Potter when I was 11/12, I actually think it was the first proper book series I ever read. :]

I first read Harry Potter when I first heard of it, around the time that the third book was coming out and midnight parties were just starting to happen. I think it was the summer before college or right after my first year. I remember not really liking it until the end of the first chapter - and then I wanted to find out all about the boy who lived

I read Harry Potter when it first came out. My now college-age daughter was in 4th grade and she fell in love with it.

I read the first one right after my first daughter was born. It was the only one I read in paperback, the rest were completed in audio book. I finished the last one about a week ago!

My fourth grade teacher decided to read the first three books to an eager class of 9 year olds. I ate up the characters and plots. That Christmas I begged my parents for copies 1-3 and waited outside Sams for the 4th one (no one thought of this, so I was like the only one).

I'm very excited to have taken part in this Harry Potter movement, it pushed young children to read books for FUN, not because they're required or expected to. I will say this pushed my already book-driven mind to reading, which has to this day proven incredibly helpful in all aspects of college (including writing, reading complicated texts, and public speaking). Thanks Harry Potter.

And surprisingly I haven't read the 6th or 7th book. I stopped after the 5th one because it was taking too long for books to come out. I was 17 before the sixth one came out, 8 YEARS after my initial adoration for the characters. They weren't progressing as fast as I was, my mind set was somewhere else. However, I do plan to watch the movies but will definitely read the books first.

I was about 30 when I read my first. The audio books are awesome as well! Jim Dale does all the voices to a tee!!

I think the first time I read Harry Potter was when I was 9. It was after watching the film.
I remember I got mad when I went to the cinema and my parents told me we were going to watch Harry Potter. I thought it was a film for boys and I wanted to see another film. When it finished I was in love with both, Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe XD.

I admit it. I haven't read any of them yet. I even have the first book downloaded to my iPod, but I haven't listened to it yet. I've got an 18 hour ride each way to Maine (from Michigan) this year, so maybe I'll finally get to it. It does drive my friends who have read the books crazy though, that I read HP fanfiction, and am able to discuss the books with them. It drove my one friend absolutely nuts when I was able to guess what previously mentioned character would play a huge role in the last book. -hehe- However, I am looking forward to listening to the audio this summer.

I was in my late twenties when I first read Harry Potter. It was the hype that made me pick up the book and I am not sorry.

When I was in gr. 4 I believe. I read the first 3 because I got it for my birthday. I didn't look back at it until 6 yrs later when everyone was hyped for the last book to come out.

Oh, I would love to be entered. I'm a follower and the first time I read the books? I think I was like....8 or so. It was right when they came out for the most part, so it's been over 10 years now. So insane, but I love these books.

I started reading Harry Potter actually two years ago. My dad always read the books--but i hated to read so i never did. But when i finally did get to pick up the first book, i couldn't put it down. I woke up extra early before school to read a few chapters and i read at least until midnight just to keep reading. I loved it. So that's when i first read Harry Potter.

The first book came out when I was in college and my sister was in High School. My mom, sis and I all started reading the books at the same time and each time a new one came out, we would all read as fast as we could and then talk about it. As soon as I finished reading the last book two summers ago, I picked up number one and read all seven straight through--one of my favorite series of all time!

Justina Chen said...

I didn't read Harry Potter until the third book was out. There was so much buzz growing for the book--I admit it, I was a bit of a skeptic. But then. Potter-mania swept over me as I started the series. It's so funny; my media escort in Chicago trotted JK Rowling around on her first book tour. There were like 6 people in her audience. It's so great to see how her readers grew exponentially. I teared up at Rick Riorden's book signing at Third Place Books a few weeks ago...all the rabid fans who were there for his work. Awesome.

I read HP after college. I know! I was late to the game, and my friend Charles FINALLY convinced me that I was missing out. Then I made my parents read the books, and they loved them too!

My first Potter book was when book three came out. I found it in a Goodwill store, bought it, read it, then read one and two. I've had to wait patiently for all of the others since then. As a result, my copies of all the books are VERY well read, and some are falling apart.

I started the first book in 1998 when I got it as a Christmas present and have loved the series ever since!

I first started Harry Potter in December of '07. Yes, I waited that long, but once I started I fell in love. Some of the best fiction I've ever read!

I met Harry when the first film was coming out. My son, then 6, wanted to see it and I wasn't sure if it was appropriate. So, being the good mom, I bought a copy of the book and was instantly hooked. I then read books 2 and 3 and pre-ordered every book after that. Sharing Harry Potter with my children and my 5th grade students over the years has been so much fun. I took my kids to the midnight release of the final book and they cheered for me as I was given my copy. I have dragged them to every movie premiere and they love it.

Lynn said...

I honestly can't remember when I read the first Harry Potter, but I know I read the rest of them in quick secession as they came out...until #7. Life got busy, and I never got around to it. I own copies of 1-6, so I'd love to win a copy of the last one to motivate me to open it up. Thanks!

I read Harry Potter about nine months after it first came out. I like waiting until some of the furor of a new book dies down before reading it. That way I'm not influenced as much by what I've been told.

I was nine when I read my first Harry Potter book. I was bored and nicked it out of my mom's shelf. And that was the start of my love affair with Harry and co.

I read the first book in 2000 when I was in 6th Grade and since then I had to read each and every single subsequent ones.
I remember reading Prisoner Of Azkaban over my cousins shoulders. They were annoyed, I was was ecstatic! LOL
I have a tradition of reading atleast one book cover to cover before any major final exam!
Weird, I know but it always helps!

I began reading them when I was in elementary school around the time the first one came out but I never finished it. But then I picked them up again about two years ago and just couldn't stop reading. I was waiting in agony for The Deathly Hollows to come out. Thankfully I didn't have to wait for the rest since they had already been released but I felt really sad that all those years I was seriously missing out on a freakin' amazing series. I miss the HP world so dang much :( I don't really like the movies but it's HP so I don't care, I'll watch them anyway. :)

At first, I didn't actually read Harry Potter; it was read to me and my class by my fifth grade teacher. He had a firm belief that everyone, no matter their age, needed to be read to. He only read the first half of the book because it was all we had time for, but that was it. I ran straight to the library and got a copy so I could see what happened next. Since then, I've been a very loyal and dedication Potter fan.

I was in high school, and I worked at a Waldenbooks in my local mall. The third Harry Potter book had just come out in paperback; it was the holidays and everyone was snatching them up. I thought I'd avoid all the hoopla, but then one day, when I was sent to go work at the calendar kiosk downstairs (i.e. boring), I grabbed a copy of the first Harry Potter to pass the time. By the end of my shift, I was begging my boss to let me borrow the first and the second one. I've been smitten ever since.

I was in my late 20s when the first Harry Potter book was released. I read it and was hooked. I think for each book thereafter I ordered the book at amazon and had it delivered on the day of release. I'm crazy about young adult fiction anyway, and Harry Potter has been a magical journey.

I had mono when the first HP book was released, and my mom bought it for me because reviews compared it to Roald Dahl, a favorite. Have been entrenched ever since.

The first time that I ever read a Harry Potter book was when my aunt gave me a copy of the Philosopher's Stone for my eleventh birthday. I thought that it was such a great book and I really enjoyed reading it. My three favorite Harry Potter books would have to be Harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Askaban , Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

I read my first Harry Potter book right after the 1st movie came out. Somehow I missed out on all the hype, maybe because I wasn't involved in any book community online at that point or because it seemed like they were geared towards just children at that point. Anyway, after that I was hooked and I know I got all of the books that were out at that point for Christmas, and I've been a huge fan every since.

techyone said...

I read the first one as soon as it came out. My son was just asking yesterday where my Harry Potter set was. He's old enough now to enjoy reading and wants to read them but I no longer have all the books.

Amber said...

You don't have to enter me because I already own the books. I first read Harry Potter in the 3rd grade when my teacher recommend the books to me. I am so glad she did! I was hooked from the first page. I feel like the first few Harry Potter books were better than the latter half, but maybe that's just because as I grew up the magic wore off a little?

I first read harry potter like when I was in 3rd grade. The first book was pretty scary and I had nightmares. Then my grandmother rented the second book's movie and I almost peed my pants.after the scare went away I read through the six books and became so lost in is world I almost got grounded for reading too much. The night that the seventh one came out I couldn't go to sleep even though I knew I wasn't getting one. But then my mom came home with one and I screamed till I was hoarse. But it took me a month to read the book because it was the last if the series and I wanted to savor every last bit of it.I cried when the last page was read. I still have a hole in my heart no other book can fill.
