October: Is Desire Really Punishable?

Laini says, "Do you believe that in real life, desire is punished? Or is this a contrivance of society to try to trick you into behaving?"

  1. It depends on your values, your morals, and your perception. What do you think is right? What do you think is wrong? What do you want, and why do you want it?

  2. I agree with LW and I also thik it depends on what type of desire. There's a desire to have a certain job, travel somewhere, etc. but there's also a desire to kill someone. Extreme example but it is punishable. And I think with any desire there is always the chance that people will disapprove and try to discourage you and that could be seen as a form of punishment.

  3. Yes, desire needs an object to know whether or not it is punishable. Desire to kill or desire to nurture? The object is the key, and some should be mortified while others pursued.
