April: Have You Ever Been "in" Love?

Featured author Deb Caletti says, "Frances Lee describes buying a box of chocolates for a boy she was 'in love' with. Her mother describes to her the varying other kinds of 'in': 'In over her head,' 'In need,' 'in danger,' 'incomplete.' Have you ever experienced an 'in love' that was actually an 'in'?"

  1. Totally! I found myself "in" love because all my friends thought the guy was great. I didn't stop to think what I thought. I was just floating around "in" love. Sheesh.

  2. Before I answer, I want to mention this:

I have this weird fascination with asking people what their definition of love is - because it's this universal emotion, we're all capable of it and will all have felt it at least once in our lives... no two people, out of the many that I've asked, have ever had the same answer.

So really... whether or not I've been "in love" depends on your definition of love. As far as I'm concerned, I have.

I believe there are different kinds of (romantic) love/being "in love" - different intensities and levels... maybe I've not yet experienced the kind of love where I could see myself marrying that person or anything, but I've loved.

Someone told me once, that if you love someone then you always feel it - because feelings like that don't just go away completely.

And when I think of these two guys, how they used to be when I was "in love" with them, I still feel something... something more than nostalgia and far from indifference, I still love the memory of them so that's how I know it was real (and not just one of those intense crushes that I look back on now and don't feel even a trace of the attraction or connection that I used to feel).

...Sorry, this is a really long rambling answer - you just happened to ask a question that I'm quite opinionated on. =P

  3. Not sure I'm getting this question, but I'm taking it as have you ever been in love?

    Yep. One time.

Still in love with him too.

  4. Lanna-lovely, your answer reminds me of the movie Paper Hearts. Did you see it? Maybe you would "love" it. :~)

Shelf Elf, maybe Deb will flesh out the question.

  7. Shelf Elf - I meant, we can think we're in love, when it may be another kind of "In." Such as, incomplete, infatuation, in over our heads... I know I've called it "love" when it's been some other things...
