Oh, how I wish I had Frankie's control, broad perspective, and thoughtfulness!
Barring that, I wish there were a checkout stand with a very long line between my brain and my mouth, and I wish thoughtless and inconsiderate comments were very expensive. Unfortunately, there is nothing but an express lane between my brain and mouth, and thoughtless comments are free.
I've gotten much better at thinking through what I say as I've gotten older. It's a balance at being able to say what you want or need to without having to worry about hurting or offending someone.
Of course it is very true for everyone to think and than to work or speak. I am very fast speaker. Everyone of the my family member are telling to speak less and slow. But I never do. Thanks for your post and I will try... R4i 软件
I am not so good myself. The calculations Frankie makes would take me much much longer, and often by the time I've thought through what I'd really like to say, the moment is past.
This is one of the fun things about being a writer. You can give your characters all kinds of attributes you yourself don't have.
I am not naturally very good at thinking before I speak (my Irish blood! Yes, that's my excuse!) I tend to subscribe more and more to the "better to say nothing" if I can't think of anything kind to say. I'm getting better at this. Keeps my quiet!
I generally think before I speak, except sometimes in the uttermost extreme of deep emotion. Fortunately those time do not happen frequently. Count to ten. Just count to ten.

ReplyDeleteOh wow. I'm ROFL at JenFW's comment. Awesome. I'll second what she said :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Jen and Ali! I've definitely gotten better with age, but I still say things DAILY that I wish I could revise in my head.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! I wish I could. I try. Laughing and nodding with JenFW!

ReplyDeleteI think about what I say before I say it, but the pace at which I speak (and think, and read, and move) tends to be quite rapid, but truthful.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think I am like Frankie!
