I think the challenges are enormous because a fourteen-year-old is still growing up herself and is not ready for the all-consuming responsibility of nurturing another life. The only plus I can see is that a fourteen-year-old has so much energy!
I just can't imagine. I see young mothers and wonder at their strength. Hopefully they have a network of love surrounding them.
The sacrifice a parent makes is so great, just thinking for a second on the physical level, I can't imagine making those while still physically growing. Wow.
That's a good point, Sam. I knew a few girls who had babies in their teens, too, and it definitely changed our friendship. All of a sudden, we were in two different worlds!
Teens CAN be vicious -- that sooo true! But it seems like it's only the girl who gets talked about behind her back. The boy gets off the hook! Why is that?
I imagine that one big challenge would be shifting your focus almost entirely away from yourself and your needs and dreams, at least for a while. That has to be hard for someone at any age, but maybe it's especially hard for a teenage mom because at that time in your life, you really are at a stage where you are meant to be figuring yourself out, deciding who you are and who you want to become.
I assume there are many challenges when becoming a mother - emotional, financial, physical, everything - and for someone Renee's age, who was still at home, at school, and a kid herself, all of that would just be further compounded.
A little late, but as for the guy getting off the hook-not always. They don't have to deal with being pregnant, but girls scorn them, guys think they're idiots...They get off easier, but not completely.

One of my friends had a baby at 15(she's 16 now)
