  17. Hope. It is a comfort that provokes and generates excitement and inspiration for a new generation, not only for Americans but for all people across our small planet. To quote Dylan, "The times they are a-changin". Yes they are! In spite of everything we face, we are truly blessed.

  46. These books are supposed to be fantastic! Plus, could there be a better time to read them? Great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  47. You really can never tell what will happen in 4 years. But what I believe is that we elected someone with confidence. And that to me is one of the important characteristics a leader must have.

As for the series, my co-worker has been buggin me to pick it up and read read read. And the best part is, we work in a library!! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Even though they were already in bed, I took pictures of my kids yesterday, when I thought of it. I want to be able to show them what they were like when such a historic day took place. They probably won't remember it (they are 4 years old and 10 months old) but they will most definitely learn about it.

I'd look forward to reading the books and then passing them on to my daughter, when she's old enough!

  73. I thought it was an amazing day. When Obama won the election, I was surprised. I always thought that America would have a woman president first before an African-American one but, I'm happy that change is happening and progress is being made.

  74. Hi! I've heard these books are amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd love to read those books. I've seen so many great comments and interviews about them. Will you try to give a set to the Obama girls for when they are older? The last one might not be appropriate at any age since we hope and pray such circumstances won't happen.

Or give Mitali Perkins' book! I do hope that the girls are getting floods of book gifts for their White House library.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I've been handing them out to my library YAs so often lately! What a great idea.

  77. Exciting! I'd love to read the series. I'm a children's bookseller, but my store's in Toronto, so they're books I can't justify getting "for stock" (ie, so I can borrow them).

  84. My mother taught me that when I have nothing nice to say, I should say nothing. So about the inauguration:

    "nothing."

It was a good opportunity to watch less TV and read more books. Would love to read about a fictional President rather than 44.

    ReplyDelete
  85. OK, seriously? When I saw Malia and Sasha at the inauguration yesterday, I thought, "You know, I really need to read that President's Daughter series I've been hearing about - it's supposed to be really good". So winning this contest would be very convenient :).

  88. I teach junior high school, so I watched the inauguration with a roomful of 7th graders. I was surprised by how many of them sat spellbound for the President's speech. My wildest boy walked right up to the TV and stood enthralled for 20 minutes, except for the point where he told me, "I'm getting chills."
I was born early enough that I can remember Nixon resigning, so I've seen quite a few presidents, and this was the best. Even my parents, in their 80s, white, voted for the opposition, were moved and hopeful over this event.
    Godspeed, Mr. Obama. Godspeed.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I remember reading these books years ago. I've been wanting to get the new editions for our library for a while now. This would be a great opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I've never gotten a chance to read all four books, but only because I couldn't find them as a teenager. What an awesome giveaway! I will definitely be doing some renewed searching at the library in the meantime.

    "Yes, we can!"

Everyone seems really interested in President Obama and U. S. history. I'm glad a company offers a unique way for readers to take part in the historical events associated with the presidency.

    So she grew a...fin,
And now she looks like a big fishie.

It was tear-enducing, I know. Talent like this is hard to come by. :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think 2009 will be a historic year with the new administration.

    ReplyDelete
  115. What a joyous day! I laughed, I cried, but mostly I thought about how change is gonna come.

I've read the first book in the series and loved it. I wonder if the Obama girls (well, maybe Sasha is a little too young now) have read these books?

    Thanks this generous offer!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Awesome! I can't seem to get the first one via inter-library loan at all.

    ReplyDelete
  117. In fifth grade, my teacher was the only African-American on staff. At some point, I remember her saying that the United States would elect a woman long before they would elect a black man or woman. That comment stuck with me, and really bothered me. Maybe racism wasn't something that had occurred to me in the real world yet? I lived in a small town thirty miles from the 'big city' of Minneapolis...it wasn't very diverse. I just wish I knew where she was today so I could tell her how happy I am she was proved wrong. Even if she was one of my favorite teachers ever.

    ReplyDelete
  118. President Powers taught me the word "obstreperous"; last Tuesday made me remember what inspiration feels like.

To see that amount of patriotism is something I haven't seen since 9/11. I cried during the President's speech and loved the whole ceremonial aspects of it. I have great faith in President Obama.

My whole school was celebrating on Inauguration Day. It should've been declared a school holiday, what with all the professors cancelling classes so we could go to one of the 6 places on campus where large screens were set up, displaying the inauguration live. It was lots of fun.
