May: Where is Your Quiet Place?

Lisa says, "At one point, Maybe retreats to the library for solace. Where to you go or what do you do when you want to be alone?"

  1. Because I live in NYC, my apartment isn't very big. But our one-bedroom is laid out as a duplex, so my husband works downstairs, and I have a corner upstairs set up as an "office." Mind you, it's a corner, and it's not detached, but it's roomy enough for a wide expansive desk and a cozy chaise for reading. I guess some people wouldn't consider work an "escape," but there's nothing I like better than curling up in my corner to read or write.

  2. I love the sound of that, Micol! Consider me jealous.

It's not very quiet, but I really like my front stoop for a retreat. It's peaceful, wifi doesn't work, and I can write or read with a little bit of sunshine and a "hello" from people heading to the park every now and then. Perfect for me!

  3. I live on a dead end street with a strand of woods beside my property. There is a path that meanders through to a creek. I love taking Pickles (the deaf working dog wonder) and sitting beside the creek for some quiet solace.

  4. I finally bought myself a hammock! I hang it in the tree in the backyard and read and swing.

  5. I actually get plenty of alone time--I write from home while my kids are at school. But when I want to be alone without work? I curl up under a blanket with a book.

Every so often, I do drive up to Mt. Baker for a weekend of solitude in the woods. That takes a lot more doing, though.
